Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris, born on the 20th of October, 1964, is an American politician and lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first female vice-president and the highest ranking female politician in U.S history. A part of the Democratic Party, she previously served as attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017 and as an United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born in Oakland and attended Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Following her first job as an Alameda County District Attorney, Harris was hired to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Then she was appointed the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003, she was appointed the San Francisco district attorney. In 2010 Harris was appointed Attorney General for California. She was reelected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As a senator she advocated healthcare reform, federal descholaring of cannabis, a pathway for undocumented immigrants to become citizens and the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. She also supported progressive tax reform. She is most famous for her sharp questions to Trump administration officials in Senate hearings.
